(i) are age 25 and older (if opening a CIBC Smart Account) or have reached the age of majority (if opening a CIBC Smart Plus Account),
(ii) from January 1, 2021 to the time of opening their CIBC Smart or CIBC Smart Plus, were not a holder of any CIBC chequing account as determined by CIBC on the basis of its official records, and
(iii) are not CIBC employees or retired employees.
To qualify for the $400 cash reward, open a CIBC Smart Account or CIBC Smart Plus Account and provide your email address. Within 2 months of opening the account, set up and execute 1 or more recurring direct deposit(s) in a minimum aggregate amount of $500 per month from your employer, government, or your pension and 1 of the following 3 activities:
(i) at least 2 separate recurring pre-authorized debits;
(ii) at least 5 eligible Visa Debit purchases; or
(iii) at least 2 online bill payments of at least $50 each.
The direct deposit(s) and the pre-authorized debits must recur either weekly, biweekly, monthly or twice per month and remain in effect for at least one (1) year from after the month that the CIBC Smart Account or CIBC Smart Plus Account was opened. Unless otherwise indicated, this offer cannot be combined with any other chequing account offer, rebate, reward, or the CIBC Smart Start or CIBC Smart for Students benefit on the CIBC Smart Account.
The $200 new eSA offer is open to residents of Canada:
(i) who have reached the age of majority in their province or territory of residence,
(ii) from January 1, 2021 to the time of opening their eSA, were not a holder of an eSA as determined by CIBC on the basis of its official records, and
(iii) are not CIBC employees or retired employees.
To qualify for the $200 cash reward offer, you must complete all steps required to receive the $400 chequing account offer and open your first eSA within the same month you open your chequing account. By the end of the second calendar month after the month you open your eSA, you must establish a minimum closing balance of $10,000 in your eSA, and maintain that daily closing balance of at least $10,000 for an additional three (3) consecutive calendar months. If the balance falls below $10,000 at any point during the additional three month period, you will not qualify for the $200 reward. 1 A transaction includes cheques, withdrawals, transfers, pre-authorized payments, bill payments (including CIBC Credit Cards and CIBC Personal Lines of Credit) and debit purchases. 3 If you get a CIBC Smart Plus Account, you’ll receive an annual fee rebate of up to $139 on a premium CIBC credit card for the primary cardholder and an annual fee rebate of up to $50 for up to 3 additional authorized users. Existing eligible CIBC credit card holders who have already paid the annual fee at the time the CIBC Smart Plus Account was opened will be provided a pro-rated rebate credit. 4 Fees charged by other financial institutions or third parties for using their ATMs, and the 2.5% administration fee on the converted amount for foreign currency ATM withdrawals are not included in this feature and will be charged to your account. ATM withdrawal amounts may be limited to a maximum dollar withdrawal amount.
5 If you apply for and are approved for CIBC Overdraft Protection Service (COPS), the COPS fee isn’t applicable, however you’ll pay interest on any overdraft amount on your account and overlimit fees if applicable. COPS is available on select CIBC personal bank accounts for customers who meet CIBC’s standard credit criteria.
6 Excludes stop payments on pre-authorized debits and recurring payments set up using CIBC Advantage Card details. To stop payment on these, you need to contact the merchant, biller or payee directly to instruct them to discontinue applying charges to your account(s) through your CIBC Advantage Card. If you’re unsuccessful in resolving the issue, CIBC may be able to work with Visa to request a refund for you.
7 Saving the monthly fee of $29.95 for the CIBC Smart Plus Account is based on maintaining a minimum daily account balance of $6,000 or eligible Savings and Investments of $100,000. 8 Available to clients who have:
- Non-registered accounts, except for the CIBC Bank USA Smart Account and CIBC Personal Lines of Credit (PLC) accounts;
- Eligible accounts that are in good standing; and
- A valid mobile number on file with those accounts
9 CIBC foreign exchange rates apply. A CIBC Global Money Transfer and a Foreign Exchange transaction counts towards your allowable transaction limit. Bank account transaction fees may apply.
