Comprehensive Travel Insurance Plan

You have 10 calendar days after purchase to cancel your Certificate of Insurance for a full refund, provided you have not departed on your trip and a claim has not been incurred.

CIBC Comprehensive Travel Insurance Plan covers:

Medical and dental

• Provides coverage for eligible hospital and physician's bills, and expenses resulting from an accidental injury, or new sickness or disease.^ⓘ
• Paramedical services including those of a chiropractor, chiropodist, or physiotherapist up to $500 per profession if required as a result of a covered emergency.
• Emergency dental treatment for up to $4,000 coverage as a result of an eligible direct accidental blow to the face.

Transportation

• Covered costs for your return home or to the nearest appropriate medical facility or Canadian hospital by regular flight, medically escorted flight, air ambulance or ground ambulance.
• Return home for dependent children or travelling companion who are insured and travelling with you.
• A round-trip economy airfare by the most direct route, up to a maximum of $5,000, for the transportation of a relative or friend to your bedside if you’re hospitalized, at your destination, as a result of an unforeseen illness or injury.
• Reimbursement up to $500 for returning your accompanying dog or cat to your province or territory of residence if you are returned to Canada under the Emergency Transportation benefit or hospitalized due to a covered sickness or injury.

Convenience and comfort

• Eligible out-of-pocket expenses up to a maximum of $3,500 if you are hospitalized or if your trip is delayed beyond the scheduled return date because of a medical emergency or death.
• Coverage extension for up to 72 hours if your trip is delayed beyond your Certificate of Insurance coverage end date because of a medical emergency or other covered event.
• Trip break allows you to return to your province or territory of residence once for up to 15 consecutive days without terminating your coverage. There is no coverage while in your province or territory of residence.

Trip Cancellation & Trip Interruption Insurance

• Your eligible non-refundable, pre-paid travel costs will be covered up to the coverage amount purchased (up to $50,000), if you need to cancel or interrupt your trip due to a covered reason.

Baggage and Personal Effects Insurance

• Covers the eligible costs of replacing your baggage and personal effects (up to $2,000) if your baggage and personal items are delayed, damaged or lost while travelling.

Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance

• Provides up to $10,000 in the event of death, loss of limb or sight from an accident.

Pre-Existing Conditions Exclusion^ⓘ

Your Pre-existing Conditions Exclusion will be indicated on your Confirmation of Coverage. If you complete a medical questionnaire, your answers to the questions will determine the specific Pre-existing Conditions Exclusion that applies to you.

If you’re age 59 or under:

CIBC Travel Insurance will not pay for losses or expenses incurred for, or as the result of:

• your medical condition or related condition that was not stable 90 days before your effective date; or
• any heart condition if you have used nitroglycerine in any form for a heart condition 90 days before your effective date; or
• any lung/respiratory condition if you have an active prescription for or used home oxygen or prednisone for a lung/respiratory condition 90 days before your effective date; or
• an unrepaired aneurysm (4 cm or greater, measured in either length or diameter), that was diagnosed before the effective date; or
• any cancer (other than basal or squamous cell skin cancer or breast cancer treated only with hormone therapy) for which you received treatment 90 days before your effective date.

If you’re age 60 or over:

CIBC Travel Insurance will not pay for losses or expenses incurred for, or as the result of:

• your medical condition or related condition that was not stable during the number of days indicated on your Confirmation of Coverage (either 90 or 180 days) before the effective date; or
• your medical condition or related condition for which you received any treatment before the effective date.

Additional Exclusions:

• Any medical consultation that is non-emergency or elective.
• Any sickness or injury that occurs in an area for which Global Affairs Canada issued a written warning prior to the effective date to avoid all travel, or to avoid non-essential travel, and the sickness or injury is caused by the reason(s) for the warning being issued.
• Travelling against the advice of a physician or a condition that was diagnosed as terminal prior to your effective date of coverage.

You may still be eligible for coverage if you have pre-existing conditions if the pre-existing conditions have been stable for a designated period of time before your coverage begins. This period varies based on the insured's age and health.

It's vital to accurately disclose your health status when purchasing insurance, as misrepresentation of your medical history, whether intentional or not, may void your coverage if a claim is filed.

Yes, you can extend your travel insurance coverage, but the process depends on when you make the request:

• Before departure: You can arrange for a coverage extension before leaving your province or territory of residence by calling 1-800-281-9109 Opens your phone app..
• After departure: You may apply for a new coverage term if you:
  • Purchase additional coverage before the expiration of your original coverage;
  • Are in good health;
  • Have no reason to seek treatment during the new coverage term.
