What to do in the event of an emergency

In the event of an emergency, call the Travel Assistance Centre

Travel Assistance is available for you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

From Canada or the U.S., call 1-800-848-8454.

From all other locations, call collect 1-416-340-7124.

You must notify the Travel Assistance Centre:

  • Prior to receiving any medical treatment
  • If you must cancel, interrupt or delay your trip
  • If you experience any emergency

Failure to notify the Travel Assistance Centre will delay the processing and payment of your claim and may limit the amount of your claim payment.


How to file a claim

CIBC Emergency Travel Medical Insurance, Baggage and Personal Effects Insurance, and Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance

  • To report a claim and obtain a claim form within 30 days of occurrence, call the Travel Assistance Centre at 1-800-848-8454 
  • Review and complete the claim form and mail it to the address provided in the form along with any required documentation that is outlined in the Certificate of Insurance
  • All claims must be submitted through a claim form in writing within 60 days of the date the service was provided or the emergency situation occurred

CIBC Trip Cancellation/Interruption Insurance

  • To report a cancellation and obtain a claim form, contact the Travel Assistance Centre no later than the first business day following the cause for cancellation of your trip. For assistance, call 1-800-848-8454. Call the Travel Assistance Centre immediately if you must interrupt or delay your trip to report the interruption or delay and obtain a claim form.
  • Review and complete the claim form and mail it to the address provided in the form along with any required documentation that is outlined in the Certificate of Insurance
  • All claims must be submitted through a claim form in writing within 60 days of the date the service was provided or the emergency situation occurred
