Refer a friend and you’ll both earn $50

To refer someone, you need to:

1. Be a legal resident of Canada
2. Have reached the age of majority in your province or territory of residence
3. Be registered for CIBC Mobile or Online Banking, and
4. Have an active CIBC Canadian dollar chequing or savings account and agree to all terms.

 To get your unique referral information, you’ll need to sign on to mobile or online banking and select, “Refer and earn.” You can share this link with friends.

To be eligible for a reward the friend you refer must be an individual who: (i) at the time of opening the account, has not held (or jointly held) a CIBC Smart account as determined by CIBC on the basis of its official records, (ii) has a personal or family relationship with you, and (iii) meets the eligibility requirements to open an eligible CIBC Smart Account including CIBC Smart™ Start, CIBC Smart™ for Students, CIBC Smart Account for Newcomers, CIBC Smart for Seniors account or CIBC Smart Account – Banking Offer for Apprentices.

Refer as many friends or family members as you like and earn up to 50 referral rewards each calendar year (January 1 to December 31) when your referrals meet all eligibility requirements, including the completion of qualifying actions for both of you to qualify. 

Your friend needs to use your referral link to open their first Smart Account. The following accounts are eligible: CIBC Smart™ Account for Newcomers, CIBC Smart™ Start, CIBC Smart™  for Students, CIBC Smart™ Account – Banking Offer for Apprentices, CIBC Smart™ Account, CIBC Smart™ for Seniors.

Then, your friend needs to follow all the instructions to set up their new account and complete the following activities within 60 calendar days from the day the account was opened: 

1. If your friend opens a CIBC Smart™ Start or CIBC Smart™ for Students: 

a. Deposit at least $100 into the account.

b. Complete five (5) Visa Debit purchases.

c. Keep the account open, active and in good standing at the time of incentive payout.

2. If the friend opens a CIBC Smart for Newcomer account: 

a. Maintain an average daily closing balance greater than $0 for a 60-day period starting from the date of account open, and within that 60-day period make a deposit of at least $100 into the account. 

b. Complete one of the following 2 activities within 60 days of opening their account:

i. set up and execute at least 1 recurring direct deposit, or

ii. set up and execute at least 1 different recurring pre-authorized debit.

The direct deposit(s) and the pre-authorized debit(s) must recur either weekly, biweekly, monthly or twice per month.

c. Keep the account open, active and in good standing at the time of incentive payout.

3. If your friend opens any of the following accounts: CIBC Smart™ Account, CIBC Smart™ Account – Banking Offer for Apprentices or CIBC Smart™ for Seniors:

a. Set up and execute one (1) or more recurring direct deposit(s) into the Account in a minimum amount of $500 from their employer, the government or pension. The direct deposit(s) must recur either weekly, biweekly, monthly or twice per month, and remain in place for at least one (1) year after the month that the Account was opened. 

b. Keep the account open, active and in good standing at the time of incentive payout.

Once your friend or family member has opened an eligible account and met the qualifying actions for their referral reward, we’ll deposit your one-time reward in your CIBC account within ninety (90) calendar days of that completion date. Note that your account needs to be active and in good standing to receive the reward.

Unfortunately, no. Your friend must use your unique referral link. Your friend must meet all eligibility requirements, follow all the instructions to set up their first new CIBC Smart™ Account for Newcomers, CIBC Smart™ Start, CIBC Smart™ for Students, CIBC Smart™ Account – Banking Offer for Apprentices, CIBC Smart™ Account, CIBC Smart™ for Seniors and complete the qualifying actions for both of you to qualify.

While the CIBC Smart Account Refer-a-Friend Program is active and while you maintain a CIBC chequing or savings account that is active, open, and in good standing, your referral information will not expire.

Joint accounts are eligible for a referral reward. The friend or family member that you refer, who uses your referral link, must open their own eligible CIBC Smart™ Account as their first Smart account with CIBC and meet all eligibility requirements, including the completion of qualifying actions for both of you to qualify.
