Did you know you can do much of your banking from the comfort of your home? Here's how to get started.
CIBCSep. 07, 2021
We know being face to face with your CIBC Banking Centre representative can be very reassuring, but the realities of COVID-19 mean that, right now, you may not always want to make the visit. Luckily, you can do many of your regular banking tasks online, easily and quickly. Since 1995, we've made banking online secure and convenient.
To help get you started, here are answers to some common questions.
What are my options?
Most of your everyday transactions can be completed from the comfort of your home. You can bank on your computer, tablet or smartphone. Using these online options, you can get information on your accounts, deposit cheques, pay bills, transfer funds, send money, review statements, order cheques and more.
How complicated is it to use CIBC Online Banking®?
Short answer: it's not. If you've used an ATM, the interaction on your computer is similar. You'll need to sign on to your account and use the menus to select what you'd like to do. Don't worry about making a mistake — you'll be able to confirm your transaction before it's completed.
To download the CIBC Mobile Banking App on your tablet or smartphone, search for the app in the App Store or Google Play.

Are online and mobile banking safe?
Like all Canadian banks, we take your account safety very seriously, and we want you to be confident when accessing your financial information online. We use enhanced security measures, such as encryption, 2-step verification and user authentication so you can bank with confidence. You can also sign up to receive alerts by text or email whenever charges or payments are made to your account, so you’re always in the know about your account activities.
We also have a Digital Banking Guarantee. It’s simple: if you’ve been a victim of fraud, and you’ve met all of your responsibilities, we promise to return 100% of the money you’ve lost from your CIBC accounts. Read more about our Digital Banking Guarantee.
How do I deposit a cheque?
With the app, you can deposit cheques using the camera on your mobile phone or tablet. Take a picture of the front and back of the cheque using the app and deposit your funds. Learn how to use CIBC eDeposit®.
Can I review my transactions?
Yes, in fact, you can review up to 7 years of statements on your computer, tablet or smartphone.
What else can I do?
Once you’re up and running with online banking, you can use some features to assess your financial health and set savings goals.
Take the first step toward building your plan with the CIBC Financial HealthCheck™. Use this quick tool to receive an overview of where your finances stand today and what to plan for next.
Want to track your savings toward your goals, whether it’s to purchase something big or pay down debt? Use the savings calculator. It can help you determine how much you’ll need to save each month, or how long it'll take to reach a savings goal based on your contribution amount. Once you determine how much you want to contribute each month, you can even set up automatic transfers from one of your CIBC bank accounts to the CIBC account you’re using for your savings goal.
