Can I co-sign a credit card application?

If your relative or good friend has asked you to co-sign a credit card application, you may be wondering whether you can and if this is a good idea or not. While you can co-sign loan applications, you actually cannot do so for a credit card application.

Adding your child to your credit card as an authorized user

If you were looking to co-sign a credit card for your child, you can still give them access to credit and the convenience of shopping with a credit card by designating them as an authorized user on your card. Authorized users will be issued their own cards but do not have responsibility for their use of the account.

To learn more about adding authorized users to your account, contact a CIBC customer care representative at 1-800-465-4653.
