CIBC Non-Sufficient Funds (NSF) Fee Changes

Effective March 12, 2026, there will be changes to the CIBC NSF fee applicable to personal bank accounts.

What is an NSF fee?

You may be charged an NSF fee if there are not enough funds available in your account to cover a transaction. For example, this could occur if you have a monthly pre-authorized bill payment due and you do not deposit sufficient funds into your account to cover this amount, or if you write a cheque, and when the recipient cashes it, your account balance is not sufficient to cover the required cheque amount. In such instances, the bank may be unable to process the transaction, and an NSF fee may be charged to your account.

See what is changing:

The NSF fee will be $10.00 CA for Canadian personal deposit accounts, and $5.00 US for U.S. dollar personal accounts, down from $45.00.
Your personal deposit account will not be charged more than one NSF fee within a period of 2 business days.
Your personal deposit account will not be charged an NSF fee if your personal account is overdrawn by less than $10.
