Bring an international money order to Canada

Before you move, ask your current bank for an international money order or bank draft.

When you arrive in Canada, bring the money order to any CIBC banking centre to deposit the funds into your CIBC bank account.

Bring cash to Canada

When you move to Canada, you can bring cash with you. There's no limit to how much cash you can bring.

If you bring more than $10,000 CA in cash, you'll have to declare it when you arrive.

Enter the banking information of the person you're sending money to.

Enter the amount of money you want to send, then select “Submit."

Send up to
$30,000 CA
per transaction when you pay with your bank account or line of credit.

Send up to
$15,000 CA
per transaction when you use your credit card. Or up to your credit limit if it's under $5,000.

Interac e-Transfer®

Sending money to friends has never been easier. With Interac e-Transfer, you can safely send money to anyone in Canada or receive money directly into your bank account. All you need is an email address.

Sign on to CIBC Mobile or Online Banking and select Interac e-Transfer.

STEP 2

Choose who you want to send money to within Canada. You’ll need their email address.

STEP 3

Enter the amount you want to send and select the account you’ll be using for the transfer.

STEP 4

Enter a security question and answer that only you and the recipient will know.

There’s no minimum. Send as little as you want.

Choose the currency and amount you need, then confirm the foreign exchange rate.

Choose how you wish to get your cash – home delivery with Canada Post or branch pickup.

STEP 4

Choose an account to complete your payment, then submit. If you chose branch pickup, we'll send you an email when your cash is ready.

CIBC Banking Centre
$300 CA to $50,000 CA

If you're ordering an amount that converts to less than $300 CA, you must pick it up at a CIBC branch.
