    Stephen Carlin oversees CIBC Asset Management’s Canadian and global equities portfolio management and research efforts. He holds primary portfolio responsibility for Canadian equity core and equity income mandates.

    Prior to joining CIBC Asset Management in 2013, Mr. Carlin was Senior Vice-President and Head of Equities at Aegon Capital Management where he managed Canadian balanced, income and dividend strategies, and led a team of portfolio managers, analysts and traders. Previous to his role at Aegon, he was Vice-President, Canadian Equities at KBSH Capital Management and Director, Canadian Equities at CT Investment Management Group.

    Mr. Carlin holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Western Ontario. He is also a CFA charterholder.

  • Colum McKinley

    Colum McKinley has a lead role as a Portfolio Manager on our Canadian Equities team. He is responsible for the CIBC Monthly Income Fund, CIBC Canadian Equity Value Fund, and other key value mandates.

    Prior to joining CIBC Asset Management in 2010, Mr. McKinley was a Portfolio Manager at Sionna Investment Managers, and Vice-President and Director, Portfolio Manager at TD Asset Management. He was also a Senior Investment Analyst at Sun Life of Canada, and Research Associate at Marleau, Lemire Securities.

    A member of the Accounting Standard Board’s User Advisory Committee, Mr. McKinley holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from the University of Western Ontario. He is also a CFA charterholder.

  • Scott Vali

    Scott Vali is a member of the Equities team with lead management responsibility for global resource funds, including the energy and precious metals funds.

    Prior to joining CIBC Asset Management in 2014, Mr. Vali was Vice-President, Portfolio Manager with CI Investments where he managed Global Energy and Resource funds and was responsible for commodity strategy as a member of the Asset Allocation Committee. Previous to this role, he held various positions on the CI equities research team.

    Mr. Vali holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Toronto. He is also a CFA charterholder.

  • Rory Ronan

    Portfolio Manager

    Show

    Rory Ronan is a member of the Equities team. He is responsible for the overall management of investment portfolios. His role includes portfolio construction, research and fundamental analysis, security selection and risk mitigation.

    Prior to joining CIBC Asset Management in 2017, Mr. Ronan was Portfolio Manager at Invesco Canada Ltd. (Trimark Investments). In that role, he managed Canadian, U.S. and European balanced strategies. During his tenure, he was also a lead manager for the Trimark Diversified Yield Class Fund, which won a Thomson Reuters Lipper Fund Award for top balanced fund. Mr. Ronan has over 20 years of industry experience.

    Mr. Ronan holds a Bachelor of Economics degree from the University of Toronto. He is also a CFA charterholder.

  • Craig Jerusalim

    Craig Jerusalim is a Portfolio Manager on the Canadian Equities team responsible for the CIBC Canadian Equity Core Fund and other Canadian equity mandates.

    Prior to joining CIBC Asset Management in 2006, Mr. Jerusalim worked as an Analyst at Dynamic Mutual Funds and a Software Developer at Amdocs Ltd.

    Mr. Jerusalim holds a Bachelor of Science degree from McGill University and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Toronto. He is also a CFA charterholder.

  • Sara Shahram

    Sara Shahram, in her role as Associate Portfolio Manager, Global Resources, is a member of the Equities team, supporting global resource mandates.

    Prior to joining CIBC Asset Management in 2014, Ms. Shahram was Senior Investment Analyst, Global Resources, with CI Investments where she worked closely with the global resources Portfolio Manager in making investment decisions on global resource equities. Ms. Shahram previously worked as an Associate in precious metals equities research at Macquarie Capital Markets and base metals equities research at Canaccord Genuity.

    Ms. Shahram holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree and a Master of Business Administration degree from the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto. She is also a CFA charterholder.

  • Keith Lam

    Keith Lam is a member of the Equities team and has associate portfolio management responsibility for All Cap Equity strategies. His role encompasses stock selection, portfolio construction and risk mitigation.

    Prior to joining CIBC Asset Management in 2014, Mr. Lam was Managing Director, CFO and Portfolio Manager at Red Sky Capital Management Ltd. where he was responsible for all unitholder, financial, and regulatory reporting activities. He also participated in investment decisions related to financial services, technology, real estate and consumer product sectors in North America. Prior to that Mr. Lam was Vice-President and Associate Portfolio Manager at GMP Investment Management, and Financial Services Equity Research Associate at GMP Securities.

    Mr. Lam holds a Master of Accounting and a Bachelor of Mathematics degree from the University of Waterloo. He is a CPA, CA and a CFA charterholder.

    Crystal Maloney is a member of the Equities team with associate portfolio management responsibility for multiple equities mandates.

    Prior to joining CIBC Asset Management in 2015, Ms. Maloney was a Portfolio Manager at OtterWood Capital Management, where she conducted equity research, selected securities and determined portfolio construction. Prior to that role, Ms. Maloney was a Senior Analyst and Portfolio Manager at Aegon Capital, conducting fundamental equity analysis and contributing to stock selection across many mandates. She has also worked at BMO Capital Markets as an Equity Research Associate with a focus on the financial services sector.

    Ms. Maloney holds an Honours Bachelor of Commerce degree from Queen’s University. She is a CPA, CMA and is also a CFA charterholder.

  • Catharine Sterritt

    Catharine Sterritt is a member of the Equities team and is responsible for supporting Canadian equity portfolios.

    Prior to joining CIBC Asset Management in 2017, Ms. Sterritt was Managing Director, Global Equity, Absolute Return/Arbitrage at Scotia Capital Inc. She has over 25 years of experience in equities and is a specialist in event-driven investment opportunities, including risk arbitrage, financial or operational stress, recapitalizations and regulatory changes. Ms. Sterritt is also a recognized authority on mergers and acquisitions, regulatory issues and corporate governance. She has been a regular commentator on Business News Network (BNN) and serves on the executive committee of 100 Women in Finance — Toronto.

    Ms. Sterritt holds an Honours Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Wilfrid Laurier University. She is a CPA, CMA, and is also a CFA charterholder.

  • Reyhaneh Zand

    Reyhaneh Zand is a member of the Canadian Equities Small Cap team. She is responsible for providing research coverage of Canadian small cap companies.

    Prior to transitioning to her current role, Ms. Zand was responsible for providing research coverage of North American Healthcare companies. Before joining CIBC Asset Management in 2013, Ms. Zand worked as an Investment Banking Analyst at Cranson Capital. During this role, she provided merger and acquisition advice, arranged financing for privately held companies, conducted financial and industry analysis and helped determine company valuations. Prior to that, Ms. Zand was Director of Business Development and Strategy for a Toronto developer of high-end custom homes. She began her career with Thermofisher Scientific.

    Ms. Zand holds a Master of Business Administration degree from York University’s Schulich School of Business and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California San Diego.

    Sophia Ren is a member of the Canadian Equities team. She is responsible for providing research coverage for large cap value, monthly income and large cap dividend value mandates.

    Prior to joining CIBC Asset Management in 2017, Ms. Ren was Equity Research Associate at Credit Suisse Securities, where she covered Canadian financial institutions. She also worked as Equity Research Associate at Echelon Wealth Partners Inc., where she was responsible for research coverage of Canadian telecom and media companies.

    Ms. Ren holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Rotman Commerce at the University of Toronto.

  • Amer Shreim

    Amer Shreim is a member of the Portfolio Management and Research Equities Team. He is responsible for enhancing portfolio construction, improving risk management and assisting with the overall alpha-generation process.

    Prior to joining CIBC Asset Management in 2017, Dr. Shreim was Director of Risk and Quantitative Analysis for event-driven and multi-strategy funds at BlackRock Inc. He also previously worked as Senior Associate, External Portfolio Management, at Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB), where he managed the risk of a portfolio of external hedge funds. Previously, he was Senior Manager, Risk Management at RBC Global Asset Management, where he developed systematic trend following strategies.

    Dr. Shreim holds a Ph.D. from the University of Calgary and a Master of Science degree in Physics from the American University of Beirut.

  • Marilyn Brophy

    Marilyn Brophy is responsible for the strategic direction of the equities portfolios and the development of equities security recommendations through her leadership of a team of analysts.

    Prior to joining CIBC Asset Management in 2010, Ms. Brophy was Executive Director, Canadian Equities at UBS Global Asset Management and Director and Equity Research Analyst, Retailing at Scotia Capital. Prior to Scotia Capital she held the position of Merchandising Analyst at TD Securities. Ms. Brophy has also worked at Levesque Beaubien and First Boston.

    Ms. Brophy holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Queen’s University, Master of Arts degree in Economics from McMaster University and an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Queen’s University. She is also a CFA charterholder.

    Prior to joining CIBC Asset Management in 2010, Ms. Barker’s past positions include Research Analyst at Credit Suisse where she covered global alternative energy, and Canadian pipelines and utilities, Institutional Equity Salesperson at UBS Securities, Associate, Investment Banking at Newcrest Capital/TD Securities and Associate, Audit and Corporate Advisory Groups, at Ernst & Young.

    Ms. Barker holds a Master of Business Administration degree in Accounting from the University of Toronto and Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from Queen’s University. She is also a CFA charterholder.

    Brian See is a member of the Equities Research team. He is responsible for research coverage of the North American energy sector and is co-manager of the CIBC Energy Fund.

    Prior to joining CIBC Asset Management in 2013, Mr. See was Principal at OMERS Capital Markets, where he provided global energy coverage on E&P, integrateds, oil sands and refining companies. His previous experience also includes Senior Research Associate at Scotia Capital, Logistics Analyst with Petro-Canada and Yield Analyst at Canadian Pacific Railway Limited.

    Mr. See holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the Haskayne School of Business at the University of Calgary. He is also a CFA charterholder.

    Prior to joining CIBC Asset Management in 2016, Mr. Greenspan worked at Macquarie Capital Markets Canada Ltd. as Vice-President, Senior Analyst. In this capacity, he was responsible for the research coverage and analysis of base metals and fertilizer companies. Previous to this position, he was a Senior Equity Research Associate at the firm covering the mining sector.

    Mr. Greenspan holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from the University of Western Ontario.

  • Michal Marszal

    Prior to joining CIBC Asset Management in 2017, Mr. Marszal was Senior Analyst, Healthcare at Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec. His previous experience also includes the positions of Senior Analyst, Healthcare at Lombard Odier Investment Managers, and Analyst, Biotechnology and Medical Technology at Sectoral Asset Management Inc.

    Mr. Marszal received his Doctor of Medicine and Master of Surgery (MD, CM) from McGill University and was a resident physician in the Neurological Surgery Residency program at Stanford University Medical Center in California. Mr. Marszal also holds a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Molecular Biology from Bard College in New York and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from McGill University. He is a CFA charterholder.

    Robert Gignac is a member of the Equities Research team. He is responsible for research coverage of North American telecom and media companies.

    Mr. Gignac joined CIBC Asset Management in 2011 and was previously Executive Director of the Investment Management Research group. In this role, he led a team of analysts responsible for researching Canadian-focused investment strategies. Prior to this role, Mr. Gignac was Vice-President and Portfolio Manager at HSBC Global Asset Management. He was also Director of Research at T.E. Investment Counsel and Associate Portfolio Manager at First Asset Advisory Services.

    Mr. Gignac holds an Honours Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Windsor. He also holds a Master of Science in International Securities, Investments and Banking from the University of Reading. He is a CFA and CAIA charterholder.

  • Chase Bethel

Prior to joining Desjardins, he was an institutional investments analyst at Fidelity Investments Canada.

    Prior to joining CIBC Asset Management, Mr. Barth was Equity Research Associate in the exploration and production, and energy infrastructure sectors at Raymond James Ltd. He previously worked as Institutional Sales Analyst at CIBC World Markets.

    Alexandra Syrnyk is a member of the Equities Research team. She is responsible for research coverage and stock selection within the North American industrials sector.

    Prior to joining CIBC Asset Management, Ms. Syrnyk was Associate Analyst in Canadian equities at PH&N Investment Services. Prior to this, she worked in equity research at BMO Capital Markets, first as an Associate Analyst in mining and then as an Analyst. Ms. Syrnyk also worked as an Equity Research Associate at Raymond James Ltd.

    Ms. Syrnyk holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Sauder School of Business, University of British Columbia. She is also a CFA charterholder.

  • Fabio Serpa

    Fabio Serpa is a member of the Equities Research team. He is responsible for supporting equity research coverage within the North American mining and materials sector.

    Prior to joining CIBC Asset Management, Mr. Serpa interned as a Private Equity Analyst at a Toronto-based private equity firm.

    Mr. Serpa holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Concordia University, a Graduate diploma in Management from McGill University and a Masters of Business Administration degree from Queen’s University. He has passed all three levels of the CFA Program and may be awarded the charter upon completion of the required work experience.

  • John Braive

    John Braive

    John Braive was the founding partner of TAL Investment Counsel Ltd. (TAL) in 1983. Mr. Braive managed the firm’s fixed income assets for 18 years, ultimately building TAL into one of the pre-eminent investment management firms in Canada. Mr. Braive was Chairman and CEO of the firm’s institutional division from 1998 to 2001, when TAL was purchased by CIBC. In his current role, Mr. Braive serves as Vice-Chairman of CIBC Asset Management.

    Mr. Braive developed the first Canadian high-yield bond fund and the first index bond fund in Canada. He has introduced and developed a number of new quantitative and high-yield fixed income products at CIBC Asset Management. By taking a leading role in the marketing and servicing of CIBC Asset Management’s products, Mr. Braive has been instrumental in the growth of the firm’s assets.

    In addition to his role as Vice-Chairman, Mr. Braive is a member of the firm’s Global Fixed Income team, the Fixed Income Investment Grade and High-Yield Credit Committees, the Investment and Portfolio Risk Committees of CIBC Asset Management, and the CIBC Asset Management Board of Directors. He also serves on the Board of Governors of North York General Hospital.

  • Jacques Prévost

    Jacques Prévost specializes in active corporate bond management applied to both asset-only and asset-liability portfolios. He also oversees a team responsible for quantitative and structured solutions, and contributes to the firm’s research specialization model.

    Mr. Prévost joined CIBC Asset Management’s predecessor firm in 1999. Prior to his current role he was Vice-President, Fixed Income at the firm. He was also a Director, Fund Manager/Analyst with Scotia Capital Markets, as well as a Manager and Analyst with Reuters. Prior to that, he was a Sales Representative and Trader with First Marathon.

    Mr.Prévost holds an Honours Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Toronto. He is also a CFA charterholder.

  • Steven Dubrovsky

    Steven Dubrovsky is responsible for managing a variety of fixed income solutions including short and mid-term bond portfolios as well as customized strategies for institutional investors.

    Mr. Dubrovsky also oversees the money market team which provides cash management solutions to clients, and is a contributor to the firm’s research specialization model.

    Mr. Dubrovsky joined CIBC Asset Management’s predecessor firm in 1992. Prior to his current role he was Assistant Vice-President, Fixed Income and later Vice-President, Fixed Income at the firm. Prior to that he was Fixed Income Market Analyst and Trader at Domtar.

    Mr. Dubrovsky holds a Master of Business Administration from Concordia University and a Bachelor of Commerce degree from McGill University. He is also a CFA charterholder.

  • Patrick O’Toole

    Patrick O’Toole is a portfolio manager responsible for Core and Core Plus Canadian bond mandates, and is a contributor to the firm’s research specialization model.

    Mr. O’Toole joined CIBC Asset Management in 2004. Prior to his current role he was Assistant Vice-President, Investments at Mackenzie Financial Corporation, Director, Fixed Income at Acuity Investment Management and Director, North American Fixed Income at Canada Trust. He also worked at Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation as Senior Investment Officer, Treasury and later Manager, Fixed Income Portfolio.

    Mr. O’Toole holds a diploma in Business Administration from Algonquin College. He is a CPA and a CFA charterholder.

  • Nicholas Leach

    Nicholas Leach is a portfolio manager responsible for high-yield mandates. He also contributes to the high-yield allocations used in our Core Plus strategies and other broad corporate bond mandates. He is a contributor to the firm’s research specialization model. Mr. Leach oversees the team which conducts high-yield credit research. He is also a member of the firm’s High-Yield Credit Committee.

    Prior to joining CIBC Asset Management in 2012, Mr. Leach was a Portfolio Manager at TD Asset Management, and Credit Analyst at Clarica Life Insurance Company. He was also a Fixed Income Analyst at Dynamic Mutual Funds.

    Mr. Leach holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from the University of Toronto. He is also a CFA charterholder.

    Stéphanie Lessard heads the money market portfolio management team responsible for providing cash management solutions to clients. She also contributes to the firm’s research specialization model.

    Prior to joining CIBC Asset Management’s predecessor firm in 2001, Ms. Lessard was Manager, Money Market and Preferred Stocks at Elantis in Montreal and Analyst and Trader, Fixed Income at Fonds des Professionnels.

    Ms. Lessard holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Université Laval in Quebec. She is also a CFA charterholder.

  • Gitesh Goyal

    Gitesh Goyal is a member of the Global Fixed Income team. He is responsible for leading initiatives in private and public infrastructure and power securities.

    Prior to joining CIBC Asset Management in 2016, Mr. Goyal spent 10 years as an Infrastructure and Project Finance Director at Scotia Capital’s Debt Capital Markets and Corporate Banking Group. Mr. Goyal has more than 16 years of industry experience.

    Mr. Goyal holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the Schulich School of Business at York University and a Civil Engineering degree from the Indian Institute of Technology (BHU) Varanasi. He is also a CFA charterholder.

    Lou Paolone is a portfolio manager who oversees many of our customized solutions with a focus on liability-driven investing. Mr. Paolone designed proprietary systems used for asset-liability management. He is also a contributor to the firm’s research specialization model and risk management activities.

    Prior to joining CIBC Asset Management in 2010, Mr. Paolone was a Securities Trader and Market Analyst at SGS Asset Management and a Portfolio Manager and Trader, Fixed Income at Barclays Global Investors Canada Ltd. He was also Executive Director, Senior Analyst at CIBC World Markets and Associate Director, Fixed Income Analyst at Scotia Capital.

    Mr. Paolone holds a Master of Business Administration degree from York University and a Bachelor of Commerce degree from McMaster University. He is also a CFA charterholder.

    Luc de la Durantaye is leader of the Asset Allocation and Currency Management team. This team composed of more than twelve portfolio managers and analysts is responsible for strategic and tactical asset allocation, currency management and absolute return strategies. Mr. de la Durantaye is also an active member of CIBC Asset Management’s (CAM) Investment Committee.

    Mr. de la Durantaye brings with him over three decades of investment experience. In 1985, he began his career in Montreal as a financial analyst at a sell-side brokerage firm. He quickly moved to the investment management division of a large Canadian financial institution where he held several positions. This role led him to move to Toronto as the Managing Director of Asset Allocation where he was responsible for tactical asset allocation and currency management. After close to seven years in Toronto, he moved back to Montreal assuming responsibility for the Asset Allocation and Currency Team with CAM in 2002.

    A native of Montreal, Mr. de la Durantaye holds a Bachelor’s Degree in International Finance from École des hautes études commerciales of Montreal. He is also a CFA charterholder.

Mr. Lépine is a key member of a number of management teams, actively participating in the elaboration of global bond, equity and foreign exchange markets strategies.

    Prior to joining CIBC Asset Management’s predecessor firm in 2003, Mr. Lépine was Assistant Chief Economist at National Bank Financial. He was also an Economist at the Ministry of Finance in Ottawa and a professor at the University of Ottawa.

    Mr. Lépine holds a Master of Economics and Bachelor of Economics degree from Université du Québec à Montréal.

Previous roles included President of the Canadian affiliate for Bayesian Strategic Trading, Vice-President and Head of Asset Allocation Research at Nikko Securities and Quantitative Analyst at CDC Investment Management.

    Jean-Laurent is a member of the Asset Allocation and Currency Management team. He is responsible for portfolio management, research and infrastructure management of global fixed income within asset allocation and multi-asset strategies.

    Prior to joining CIBC Asset Management, Mr. Gagnon was Editor and Strategist for the global fixed income publication at Bank Credit Analyst Research. In this role, he researched and wrote numerous articles on global bond strategies. Previous to this, Mr. Gagnon worked at Addenda Capital, where he managed international fixed income portfolios. In this role, he traded a number of fixed income instruments, including derivatives.

    Mr. Gagnon holds a Master’s degree in Applied Finance from the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM).

  • Patrick Bernes

    Patrick Bernes is a member of the Asset Allocation and Currency Management team. He is responsible for enhancing the development, management and implementation of various investment processes, models and strategies focused on multi-asset allocation. Mr. Bernes is also responsible for structuring protective strategies with the use of derivatives, such as options and volatility instruments, with the aim of providing tactical portfolio protection.

    Prior to joining CIBC Asset Management in 2016, Mr. Bernes was a portfolio manager at PSP Investments, one of Canada’s largest pension investment managers, where he developed and implemented various top-down investment processes. In this role, he also managed a portfolio with diverse risk exposures. Previous to this, Mr. Bernes was a member of CIBC’s Asset Allocation team, where he contributed to the development of several existing equity and risk allocation models.

    Mr. Bernes holds a Bachelor’s degree in Finance from Concordia University. He is also a CFA charterholder.

    Éric Morin contributes to the economic research that underlies the development of our firm’s macro-economic outlook. He is also responsible for the coverage of G10 economies in the currency-allocation investment management process.

    Prior to joining CIBC Asset Management, Mr. Morin worked at the Bank of Canada as senior economist with the bank’s International Economic Analysis Department. He started his career at its United States Division, where he held different responsibilities, including monitoring U.S. economic developments and as lead economist on U.S. macroeconomic projections. Mr. Morin was later appointed to other divisions, where he covered advanced economies, such as Canada, the eurozone and Japan. He was also a visiting economist with the European Central Bank.

    Mr. Morin earned his B.B.A. Applied Economics degree from the École des hautes études commerciales of Montreal and his M.Sc. Economics degree from the Université du Québec à Montréal.
