Forgot to purchase travel insurance before leaving home or want to stay longer than you originally planned for? You can apply for a new term of coverage if you are in good health and have no reason to seek treatment during the new term of coverage.
CIBC’s travel insurance administrator, Allianz Global Assistance, will assess your health status before deciding on an extension.
If you wish to purchase travel insurance after leaving your province or territory of residence and you don’t have existing CIBC Travel Insurance Coverage, or your coverage has expired, a 48-hour waiting period would apply. That means any sickness you experience within 48 hours after purchasing insurance will not be covered.
However, if you extend your coverage under an existing certificate or through coverage on your CIBC credit card, no waiting period will be applied to your additional coverage as long as it’s purchased before the expiration date of your existing plan.
Please note that new terms of coverage is not guaranteed, and Allianz Global Assistance can decline your request for new terms of coverage. In addition, if you have travel medical coverage through a CIBC credit card and need additional coverage, you can apply to top-up the coverage period through the purchase of a CIBC Travel Medical Insurance Single-Trip Plan, provided your credit card is active and in good standing for the entire duration of the trip. Each certificate or term of coverage is considered a separate contract, and all limitations and exclusions will apply.
