Gurpreet Singh

Gurpreet Singh discovered her passion for technology and innovation while pursuing her MBA at McMaster. “I love how technology is always changing and is so impactful; the simplest solutions can impact millions of people globally,” she says.

Gurpreet first heard of CIBC’s Technology Leadership Advancement Program while attending school. She thought it would be a great fit, letting her explore her interest in technology. TLAP provides participants with summer internship opportunities and a full-time, two-year leadership development rotational program. The program is designed to accelerate their careers and develop leadership skills while they gain valuable work experience and exposure.

After successfully completing a TLAP summer internship and obtaining her MBA, Gurpreet entered the full-time TLAP program. “This program is a great opportunity to get exposed to different technology areas within the bank. It sets you up for success and gives you the tools and confidence to excel. It was really rewarding to have managers who understood what I was capable of, trusted me and gave me work to challenge me. I felt it gave me purpose and I felt part of the team right from the start,” says Gurpreet.

Now as a graduate of the program, Gurpreet is a Quality Assurance Consultant in CIBC’s Digital and Contact Centre Technology team. “I’m in an internal consulting role where I help identify and address potential areas of improvement within our teams. There’s a lot of collaboration and change management involved. I’m always working on something different and what I’m doing has impact, which I really love.”

Gurpreet values CIBC’s supportive and inclusive culture. “The people I work with are awesome! CIBC has encouraged me to push myself, give back and lead by example. I really want to continue to grow and develop here.”

Gurpreet’s advice for other students considering the TLAP program is this: “Be open. The purpose of the rotation experience is to consistently try something different. Experience as much as you can and don’t be scared to try something new. When you challenge yourself, you might be surprised with how rewarding it could be.”
