Targets

CIBC is actively working to achieve the following:

  • Zero electronic waste sent to landfill
  • 100% of the paper used is Forest Stewardship Council-certified, indicating that all of our paper products come from responsibly managed forests

Notes:

1 Reported energy consumption data relates to 97% of our global occupied floor space and includes estimates where actual data is not currently available. Direct GHG emissions are from natural gas, fuel oil and propane energy sources. Indirect emissions are from electricity use and from the purchase of steam for heating and chilled water for cooling. Conversion factors applied are based on the GHG Protocol Initiative.

2 Employee business travel includes air, train, and car travel for company business for over 99% of employees.

3 This includes printer paper, client statements, forms, cheques, envelopes and commercial printing.

4 Data available for approximately 46% of our global occupied floor space.

5 Reported electronic waste to landfill data relates to more than 99% of global occupied floor space.

Total waste disposed is estimated based on third party waste audits conducted in our branches and offices located in Canada. Reported data relates to 92% of our global occupied floor space.

Apart from environmental credit risk review data, paperless client accounts, mobile banking user accounts and business travel, all metrics contained in this report have been provided by third party service providers and suppliers and are based upon best available data.

In mid-2017, CIBC acquired US-based The PrivateBank. Once related operations are integrated into our EMS, related data will be included herein.
