CIBC Emergency Travel Medical Insurance takes the worry out of travel by taking care of your emergency medical expenses, and providing access to a wide range of medical and travel services anywhere in the world.
CIBC Emergency Travel Medical Insurance provides maximum total coverage of $2,000,000 (CAD) for you, your family, or your travelling companion while outside your province of residence. You are protected from the potentially high cost of emergency medical care in excess of what is covered by your Canadian Government or Provincial Health Insurance Plan, you get help in finding medical aid worldwide, and you have access to pre-trip planning advice and en route travel assistance with everything from lost baggage to emergency legal services. Purchase coverage before each individual trip, or get a multi-trip annual plan for year round coverage.

- Travel outside your province of residence
- Have coverage by a Canadian Government or Provincial Health Insurance Plan
- Want protection from emergency medical expenses that may occur while you're travelling

CIBC Emergency Travel Medical Insurance Key Benefits:

- Get competitive rates based on one traveller, one traveller with dependent children, two travellers with dependent children, or two travelling companions
- Choose a Single Trip Plan (up to 212 days)
- Opt for a Multi-Trip Annual Plan for an unlimited number of trips per year (maximum duration of 15 or 31 days per trip depending on coverage selected)
- Travellers between the ages of 55 and 74 who are travelling for 23 or more days, or travellers 75 or older, and travellers of any age with a pre-existing medical condition can also apply for coverage (see Information You Need to Know).

A medical emergency during your trip can involve additional expenses that are also covered by CIBC Emergency Travel Medical Insurance. These include the return home of your dependant children or a companion travelling with you; transportation of a friend or family member to your bedside, vehicle services and incidental expenses; automatic extension of coverage; and return of deceased.

- You can also arrange for on-the-spot coverage at your CIBC branch (except in Quebec)
Legislative changes in Quebec prohibit CIBC from offering Emergency Travel Medical Insurance through our branches in that province. While Emergency Travel Medical Insurance is no longer available through our Quebec branches, it is readily available for purchase by telephone and Internet.

If you need coverage for pre-existing conditions, or you're age 55 to 74 and are travelling for 23 or more days or are age 75 to 79:
- Call 1-800-281-9109 and answer a few simple health-related questions over the phone.
- You'll receive a quote based on your individual circumstances.
- A pre-existing condition is defined as a sickness, an injury or medical condition, for which you exhibited symptoms, or for which treatment has been received or taken, and/or which existed prior to any departure date and effective date of your coverage, whether or not that condition had been diagnosed by a physician.
If you'd rather not discuss your health history over the phone, you can complete a written Medical Questionnaire. In special circumstances, you may be required to complete a written Medical Questionnaire for underwriting purposes.

If you're age 80 or greater...
- You will need to complete and sign a Medical Questionnaire
- Call 1-800-281-9109 and the insurer will arrange to send you a form to complete
- Send back your completed form and the insurer will call you to let you know if you have been approved, and give you a quote based on your individual circumstances
CIBC Emergency Travel Medical Insurance is underwritten by Co-operators Life Insurance Company, and is administered by TIC Travel Insurance Coordinators Ltd. A detailed summary of the benefits, services, terms, conditions, limitations, exclusions and other provisions are contained in the Certificate of Insurance which you receive upon purchase, or as detailed in the Benefits and Limitations sections during an online purchase.
If you've applied under B or C above, and have been approved for coverage:
- You can complete your purchase over the phone and pay by credit card or withdrawal from your CIBC bank account.
- You will receive a Confirmation of Coverage Letter and a Guarantee of Coverage for your pre-existing condition.
- You must notify CIBC Emergency Travel Medical Insurance if your health status or medication changes between the date you complete the application and any date of departure or the effective date of any top-up/extension of coverage.
Your coverage can be extended or topped-up:
- If you decide to stay away longer than the coverage purchased on your Single Trip Plan, call us at least 3 days before your original date of return to purchase extended coverage.
- Want to take a trip longer than the number of days selected on your Multi-Trip Annual Plan? Simply call 1-800-281-9109 to purchase top-up coverage.
- Maximum duration of an insured trip (including extensions and top-ups) cannot exceed 212 days unless you obtain written approval from your Canadian Government or Provincial Health Insurance Plan.
