Foreign Currency

When travelling outside Canada, it's a good idea to bring some local currency for small expenses such as taxi rides and tips. Visit a CIBC branch before you travel to purchase your foreign currency at a competitive rate.

Interested in acquiring foreign currency?
Visit any CIBC branch. For less common currencies (outside of U.S. and Europe), call at least 48 hours in advance to confirm availability.

Is it for you?

You should acquire foreign currency if you:

  • Are travelling outside of Canada
  • Want to have local currency for transactions where travellers cheques or credit cards are not accepted

  • Common foreign currencies - such as Euros or U.S. dollars - are available at certain branches; call your branch in advance to confirm availability of your required currency
