When travelling outside Canada, it's a good idea to bring some local currency for small expenses such as taxi rides and tips. Visit a CIBC branch before you travel to purchase your foreign currency at a competitive rate.

You should acquire foreign currency if you:
- Are travelling outside of Canada
- Want to have local currency for transactions where travellers cheques or credit cards are not accepted
Information you need to know
- Common foreign currencies - such as Euros or U.S. dollars - are available at certain branches; call your branch in advance to confirm availability of your required currency
- For less common currencies, give your branch at least 48 hours notice to facilitate your request
- Visit any CIBC branch or call Telephone Banking at 1-800-465-2422 for up-to-date indicative foreign exchange rates
- If you travel often to the United States, avoid recurring fees by opening a CIBC US$ Personal Account and signing up for a CIBC U.S. Dollar VISA Card
