Computers for School (CFS)
Since its inception in 1993, CFS has been committed to ensuring technology literacy in young Canadians by providing access to computer-based resources to students across the country. Since 1993, CIBC has been the largest corporate supporter, providing over 35,500 computers and components, worth approximately $500,000.
Evergreen
CIBC's 2-year contribution of $75,000 supports the Shade for Kids Manual and Workshop Package. Responding to research that suggests that 1 in 7 children will develop skin cancer, this new project will develop guidelines for providing adequate shade in Canadian school grounds and outline strategies for individual schools to implement these guidelines.
Fort Whyte Centre, Manitoba
As one of Canada's premier environmental education facilities, the Fort Whyte Centre offers outdoor recreation programming to teachers, students, community groups and the general public. Feature exhibitions and programs also address critical environmental issues and provide outreach programs to enhance biodiversity.
World Wildlife Fund Canada Arctic Program, Nunavut
CIBC's donation of $180,000 over 3 years to World Wildlife Fund Canada supports 2 initiatives designed to support local communities in Canada's Arctic region. The Nunavut Conservation Project focuses on balancing Arctic development with strong conservation measures, while the Arctic Youth and Conservation Program offers educational and training programs to aboriginal youth.
Nature Conservancy of Canada
The Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) is a non-profit, non-advocacy organization dedicated to land conservation and wildlife preservation. Since 1962, the NCC has conserved more than 1.7 million acres of land across Canada. CIBC's funding commitment of $200,000 over 4 years will help advance conservation at more than 50 of Canada's most ecologically important sites.
Waterfront Regeneration Trust, Ontario
CIBC's 3-year contribution of $250,000 has helped the Waterfront Regeneration Trust expand its Lake Ontario Waterfront Investment Program. This expansion is changing the face of the waterfront for towns and cities stretching from Trenton to Niagara-on-the-Lake. In 1996, CIBC became the first major corporate supporter of the Waterfront Trail with a donation of $1 million over 5 years.
Learning for a Sustainable Future
CIBC has made a $100,000 commitment over three years to Learning for a Sustainable Future, an organization dedicated to pursuing environmental protection, economic prosperity and social justice through education.
Alberta Ecotrust Foundation, Alberta
CIBC's $25,000 donation will support Alberta Ecotrust in building partnerships and collaborations for environmental action at the community level. This organization brings industry and environmental groups together to approve, fund and implement innovative and meaningful environmental grassroots projects across Alberta.
