  1. What are the minimum requirements for Online Banking?

    To use CIBC Online Banking, you need a computer with Internet access and a 128-bit encrypted version of:

    • Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 or later
    • Netscape Navigator 7.1 or later
    • Safari 1.0

    Since cibc.com and Online Banking use JavaScript and Java, both must be enabled within your browser.

  2. Which browsers do I need to access cibc.com or Online Banking and what are the minimum required browser versions?

    To access www.cibc.com or Online Banking, please use one of the following supported browsers with a minimum 128-bit encryption technology:

    Using Microsoft Windows:
    Using Apple Mac OS 10.2 and later:

    Note: you may find that you can access Online Banking using older browsers versions, however some functions may not work.

    When accessing Online Banking, please ensure that:

    • Java and JavaScript are enabled
    • Cookies (persistent and session) are turned on

  3. How do I clear my browser's cache?

    If you share a computer and Internet connection with someone, you should be aware of a potential security risk. Others could view your confidential financial information by hitting the Back button on your web browser after you have used it to do your banking. You can keep your private information secure by closing your web browser after your banking session or by clearing your browser's cache.

  4. How do I enable Java and JavaScript for optimal access to the homepage?

    To access services through Online Banking, you must enable your computer's web browser to accept Java and Javascript.

    To enable Java and Javascript, please follow the applicable steps below:

    Using Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5, 6.0x:
    1. From the browser menu bar, select "Tools". From the dropdown menu, select "Internet Options…". The "Internet Options" window appears.
    2. Select the "Security" tab.
    3. Click "Custom Level…". The Security Settings window appears.
    4. Scroll down until you find "Scripting". Verify that the "Enable" option for "Active Scripting" is selected.
    5. Scroll down further until you find "Scripting of Java applets". Verify that the "Disable" option has not been selected.
    6. Click "OK".
    7. In the "Internet Options" window, click "OK".

    Using Netscape Navigator 7.1:
    1. From the browser menu bar, select "Edit". Select "Preferences…". The Preferences window appears.
    2. In the "Category" window, click "Advanced" to expand this option.
    3. From the list of expanded options, select "Scripts & Plugins".
    4. Ensure all the options are selected, and then click "OK".

    Using Internet Explorer 5.2.3:
    Enable Java:
    1. From the browser menu bar, select "Edit". From the dropdown menu, select "Preferences". The Internet Explorer Preferences window appears.
    2. On the left side of the page, click "Web Browser" to expand the directory. Select "Java".
    3. In the "Java Options" section, check the "Enable Java" box. Click "OK".

    Enable JavaScript:
    1. From the browser menu bar, select "Edit". From the dropdown menu, select "Preferences". The Internet Explorer Preferences window appears.
    2. On the left side of the page, click "Web Browser" to expand the directory. Select "Web Content".
    3. In the Active Content section, check the "Enable Scripting" box and the "Show scripting error alerts" box.
    4. Click "OK".

    Using Safari 1.x:
    1. From the browser menu bar, select "Safari". From the dropdown menu, select "Preferences".
      The Security window appears.
    2. Check the "Enable Java and Enable JavaScript" boxes.
    3. Close the window.

  5. Is cibc.com compatible with OS/2, Linux, etc.?

    CIBC.com is tested with several supported browsers for Windows and MacOS. While we do not support other operating systems, you are welcome to try Firefox 1.0 and and Netscape 7.2 if they are available for your operating system.
