What is CIBC Overdraft Protection Service?
Overdraft protection helps to protect you against temporary cash shortages on your personal account. CIBC Overdraft Protection Service gives you access to a predetermined credit limit ranging from a minimum of $100 to a maximum of $5,000. Overdraft protection will automatically provide you with the extra funds you need, up to your approved limit. You are eligible for this product if you have reached the age of majority in your province of residence, have a good credit rating, have demonstrated financial responsibility, and are a Canadian resident. Your credit history and gross monthly income are used to determine the approved limit. Overdraft protection is available on most Canadian dollar personal bank accounts. It is not offered on CIBC's Investor's Rate account®, or the Youth Account.

-
What is the CIBC Overdraft Protection Service repayment structure?
Just make a minimum deposit of $100, or the amount that is overdrawn (whichever is less) into your account each calendar month in which your account is overdrawn, and once every six months, deposit enough to bring your account into a positive balance for at least one full business day.

-
What are the fees for using CIBC Overdraft Protection Service?
If you do not use your overdraft protection, there is no charge. If your account goes into overdraft, you pay a $5 charge in any calendar month in which you create or increase your overdraft (based on end of day balances) and interest on the outstanding overdraft amount at the rate of 21% per year. Please note that if CIBC allows you to exceed your overdraft limit, an additional overdraft fee of $5 per item will apply in addition to interest at the rate of 21% per year on the overdraft amount. Please note that if CIBC should choose to allow one or more such account withdrawals, it has no obligation to do so again at anytime in the future.

-

These loans are offered by Financial Institutions under the Canada Small Business Financing Act. Leasehold improvements, equipment purchases, real property, immovables and computer software are examples of items that can be financed. There is no minimum borrowing requirement and the maximum loan amount is $250 000.

-

As this is a government guaranteed loan, personal guarantees are limited to 25% of the original amount of the loan. You can choose either a fixed interest rate or a variable interest rate. The rate of interest paid to CIBC will not exceed CIBC Prime + 3% on a variable rate loan, or 3% above CIBC's residential mortgage rates on a fixed rate loan. Repayments are typically made in monthly installments but can be tailored to meet specific requirements. The BIL can be amortized over a period of 10 years. There is a one-time administration fee of 2% of the loan amount that is paid to the federal government. This fee can be added to the amount of the loan and no other fees apply.
