  3. Who can purchase coverage for CIBC Travel Medical Insurance?

    CIBC Travel Medical Insurance is available to anyone who is a resident of Canada, insured under a Provincial Health Insurance Plan and travelling outside the province of residence for 180 days or less. If you are 75 or older on the trip start date, your health history must be reviewed before coverage is provided. If you have questions or want to purchase CIBC Travel Medical Insurance, please call 1 800 281-9109. Insurance specialists are available to help you from Monday through Friday, between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m. eastern time and Saturday and Sunday between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m.

  4. Does your policy provide for services offered in out-patient clinics and doctors' offices, or do I have to be hospitalized?

    Services in out-patient clinics and doctors' offices are provided under this coverage. However, the treatment must be as a result of an emergency. Routine checkups are not covered.

  5. Does your policy have any maximums, deductibles or co-insurance?

    Each insured is covered up to a maximum aggregate of $2,000,000 Cdn per trip. We have no deductibles or co-insurance.

  7. Does this plan offer trip cancellation or baggage coverage?

    The CIBC Travel Medical Insurance coverage does not provide trip cancellation or baggage coverage. You can, however, take advantage of other benefit packages offered by CIBC, including Trip Cancellation/Trip Interruption Insurance, Baggage and Personal Effects Insurance, Rental Vehicle Damage Insurance or our Comprehensive Travel Insurance Plan.

  8. What is your refund policy for cancellations or early returns?

    You may cancel this insurance at any time before your departure. You can also cancel your insurance after departure. However this is considered an early return, meaning that we refund only the unused premium amount - provided there has been no claim and you have notified us within 7 days of your return.

    All travellers insured under the same certificate must return together for a refund to be possible.

    Please note: Refunds provided will be subject to an administrative fee of $10 Cdn plus tax, where applicable.

  9. If we decide to stay away longer than planned, can I purchase additional coverage for our extended stay?

    If you have an Annual Plan and want to take a trip that is longer than the number of days you selected, just call 1-800-281-9109 to purchase top-up* coverage for your trip.

    If you decide to stay away longer than planned, call us at least 3 days before the coverage termination date to purchase extended coverage* for the extra number of days you need for that trip - as long as no event has occurred that may result in a claim. From Canada or the United States (including Hawaii), call toll-free 1-800-281-9109. From anywhere else in the world, including Mexico, call collect to Canada 416-340-6524.

    *Top-up and extended coverage are subject to minimum premium requirements. The maximum duration of an insured trip including any extensions/top-ups cannot exceed 212 days unless the insured obtains written approval from their provincial health insurance plan.
