
John Braive
Vice-Chairman
John Braive joined CIBC Asset Management in January 1983 as the founding partner of the firm's Toronto office. Responsible for the management of the firm's fixed income assets for 18 years, Mr. Braive was instrumental in building CIBC Asset Management into one of the pre-eminent investment management firms in Canada.
Among his many accomplishments, he developed the first index bond fund in Canada and introduced new quantitative and high yield fixed income products at the firm. He also contributed to the growth of the firm's assets by taking a leading role in the marketing and servicing of CIBC Asset Management's products.
In addition to his role as Vice-Chairman, Mr. Braive is a member of the Global Fixed Income team, the Investment and Strategy committees, and the Board of Directors. He is also a director of the Investment Counsel Association of Canada.
Immediately prior to his current role, Mr. Braive was Chairman and CEO of the firm's institutional division from 1998 to 2001. Before joining CIBC Asset Management, he worked at Royal Trust (Toronto) from 1971 to 1982, holding various positions, including Senior Portfolio Manager, Assistant Vice-President - Fixed Income, Manager of Trading and Senior Trader.
